It's too early to be overly concerned about everything, but Philadelphia Eagles fans were hoping for more consistency from their starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, early on at OTAs.
Last week, Hurts got off to a good start at the one day the media was there, completing 11 of 14 passes. That was not the same result on the second day, with the media there, as Hurts seemed to struggle more.
94 WIP Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks shared the stats and analysis of Hurts' practice, and it did not start so well with an interception by Jeremiah Trotter Jr. that was thrown right to him during seven-on-seven drills. Hurts was able to respond with two touchdown passes, with one to Donatyvion Wicks being questioned, but there were some missfires by Hurts with an overthrow of Hollywood Brown and another one to DeVonta Smith to close the practice. Hurts finished nine of 14 with two touchdowns and one interception, with Shorr-Parks giving him a C- grade.
"Overall it was not a great day for Hurts and the 1st-team offense," Shorr-Parks said on his X account.
There is some room for improvement for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles' offense
This thing is going to take some time, with Hurts learning a new offense from a new play-caller for the seventh straight year in the NFL. One thing that Hurts has done really well over the years is showing that he is adaptable to any system he needs to run.
Under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, the scheme will be more about Hurts succeeding under center and a willingness to attack the middle of the field in the passing game. That is something Hurts has been trying to avoid for the most part and now has to face it head-on.
What's crazy is that Hurts has been criticized for not throwing it in the middle of the field or for not being coachable during the offseason, when, if fans watch the tape, he's more than capable of making that throw and taking in that coaching. Last year might have been a different story with Kevin Patullo as the offensive coordinator because it felt as though no one was on the same page.

This is a different year, and Hurts is working through the development needed to get comfortable in this offense. Give him enough time, and he should be ready to continue what he does best in the regular season: prove people wrong.
