Mixed performance at best.

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to feel that heartbreaking loss for a long time, but the worst part is that they got to see both the best and the worst of Jalen Hurts in the game.

Hurts finished the game completing 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for two yards on two carries as the Eagles lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 19-17.

Overall, was it Hurts' worst game? No, he had some nice moments, but he didn't do much to help his team.

Jalen Hurts had his great moments in the Eagles loss

The best example of why Hurts earns all his respect is how he handled the game's final drive. He went four-of-seven for 40 yards, including a great 17-yard completion to Dallas Goedert.

Hurts honestly made multiple clutch throws on that final drive: the Goedert completion and both of Dontayvion Wicks' back-to-back 16-yard completions.

His best throw of the game was when Hurts hit Darius Cooper on a 62-yard touchdown pass in the first half. Hurts threw a perfect downfield pass to Cooper, and the Jaguars' defender missed the long score.

Where Jalen Hurts showed that he can affect the Eagles in a negative way

There were many times when Hurts wasn't 100% accurate with the football. In the second half, he threw it high and behind Wicks, resulting in an incompletion.

The bad moment for Hurts came late in the third quarter when he threw a deep ball to a wide-open Wicks, and the Eagles receiver overthrew him. To Jacksonville's credit, they went all-out on a blitz and got in Hurts' face to force the overthrow.

Another issue, though, was that Hurts just didn't run the ball enough, only doing it twice. This might be because of the calf injury he suffered in practice this week, but it's still a big part of his game and a key reason the Eagles can succeed on offense.

Evaluating Jalen Hurts' overall performance in Week 5

For what Hurts had to work with on offense, it was an impressive performance. He carried the team on his back, and he did a fine job, especially on the final drive.

At the same time, the offense just struggled throughout the second half except for the final drive. It's been the Eagles' theme for the last two years, so it can no longer fall on the offensive coordinator alone. Hurts has to take accountability for that and find a way to fix it.

This Eagles offense has scored only three points in the second half in its last three games. That is a horrendous stat that shows the offense isn't doing anything to help this team win games.

Elite NFL quarterbacks, past and present, like Tom Brady, can always find a way to win a game without key players. Hurts showed that he is close, but he is not good enough to do it.
