We've been watching Jared Verse for a while. Honestly, we missed some of what he did at Florida State, but we certainly started doing some research at NFL Draft time. We just didn't think the Philadelphia Eagles had an honest shot at landing Quinyon Mitchell and we thought there was an outside shot at landing Verse at 22 when Philly was on the clock.
Let's just say we were wrong...
Football's selection meeting kicked off on April 25th. Caleb Williams was drafted first overall. We expected that.
We didn't expect the run on quarterbacks we saw. Six were taken during the first 12 selections, and that's how guys drop unexpectedly and Philly gets Mitchell, a top-ten-level talent, when they're on the clock with the 22nd overall selection.
Then, there's the thing with Jared Verse...
The L.A. Rams grabbed Verse with the 19th overall selection. Since then, he and Mitchell have been the best defensive rookies in the NFL (and two of the most popular).
But, then Verse finds his way in front of a microphone.
The hunt is on Eagles fans! Place Jared Verse of Philly's most wanted list.
Well, here we go again. Despite our efforts to paint Birds fans in a better light than they are often painted, they've been called out again for their temperament.
This time, Verse is hurling the insults. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he grew up in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. He's only played Philly once, but that didn't stop him from calling them out during his recent chat with Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.
“I hate Eagles fans. They’re so annoying. I hate Eagles fans. When I see that green and white I hate it. I actually get upset. Like, I actually genuinely get hot.”
Duly noted. Place Verse's name on Philly's most-wanted list. He isn't quite at the Deebo Samuel level, but he's certainly floating around Micah Parsons' territory.
Sure, he also noted that, during the Rams and Eagles' November clash at SoFi Stadium, Eagles fans jeered him and made obscene statements that he could make out despite wearing headphones. We're willing to overlook that.
Maybe Jared Verse should have thicker skin. That's our story. We're sticking to it, and maybe he is right. Maybe some Birds fans take things too far.
Here's the thing though. We're allowed to say that. Jared Verse isn't. We'll police our own. We don't need the assistance of a rookie... even if he's a pretty good one who's certainly headed toward super stardom.
