Week 2 was a rough weekend for young, up-and-coming quarterbacks, with multiple injuries, but it also paved the way for the Philadelphia Eagles to coast through the 2026 season.
The biggest story in the NFL was Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams' hamstring injury, which directly affects the Eagles' Week 3 Monday Night Football showdown, with his status still up in the air. In the NFC East, though, two major injuries occurred: Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels dislocated his elbow in the loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart is looking at a season-ending knee injury after the loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
These injuries are troubling for the NFL, and it's a bad look to have so many young quarterbacks go down. For the Eagles, though, in no way to be disrespectful to those who are hurt, it clearly opens the door for this franchise to run the table and win the NFC East.
Excuses are thrown out the window for the Eagles to win the NFC East
All three quarterback injuries directly impact the Eagles as they navigate through the 2026 season. The Eagles play the Bears next, and they may not have Williams or Chicago's backup quarterback, Tyson Bagent, who is in concussion protocol. That makes the Bears game winnable, with their top two quarterbacks potentially out and facing Case Keenum.
If Dart is gone for the season, the Eagles will face Jameis Winston in their two matchups. The Giants would essentially be knocked out of playoff contention, with no hope of winning the division.
Daniels will miss some time, which could put former Eagles backup QB Marcus Mariota in line to start against his old team for the second straight season on November 1 if Daniels isn't back by then. This also means the Commanders' season is a wash.
For the Eagles, that means they really have the Dallas Cowboys to worry about. They currently have the third-worst rushing attack in the NFL, averaging 67.5 yards per game, and are struggling defensively. While Dallas still has a good offense, the Eagles appear to be the clear favorites to win the division.
What happens if the Eagles still can't win the NFC East?
As dramatic as it sounds, jobs will be lost. Nick Sirianni might not keep his job as the Eagles' head coach.
That's how much there are no excuses for the Eagles. Winning the Super Bowl is one thing, but the NFC West has three teams in that division alone that could win it all and are superior to the Eagles right now.
Philly certainly has problems right now, with the safety position a liability and the interior offensive line kind of a mess. Still, they are way too talented on paper to let this division slip out of their hands. They have been gift-wrapped the division, and anything less than winning this thing by December would be a disappointment.

Not winning the division would most likely mean not making the playoffs, which is inexcusable with this roster, so no one would be safe from losing their jobs, including Sirianni and Sean Mannion. Let's hope that doesn't happen and the Eagles do their job.
