The Philadelphia Eagles fan base got their edge rusher to replace Jaelan Phillips with Jonathan Greenard, and he is already making quite the impression.

During Day 2 of the NFL Draft, the Eagles traded a 2026 and 2027 third-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings to acquire Greenard. Apparently, this deal had pretty much been done already because Greenard was at the Philadelphia 76ers playoff game, where he was asked about his message to Eagles fans.

"I'm going to bring that same energy I've been doing my whole time in the NFL," Greenard said via NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark. "Looking to bring some hardware too, so that's the main thing I'm going go. That's my mindset."

Jonathan Greenard already has Eagles fans fired up for his arrival

Greenard missed time last year due to injuries, which made his stats worse than they were during his 2024 Pro Bowl season. Before only racking up three sacks in 2025, he had 22 quarterback hits and 12 sacks in 2024.

At least for Philly, getting Greenard, they picked up a player who can not only get to the quarterback, but also sack them. While Phillips was a great pass rusher for the Eagles last year, he had only two sacks in the second half of the season.

While the Eagles lost two third-round picks, they are saving a ton of money on a great edge rusher. Phillips got $30 million a year from the Carolina Panthers in free agency, while the Eagles are only paying Greenard $25 million per year with his new four-year, $100 million contract extension he signed with Philly as part of the trade.

Eagles fans hope Greenard is going to be a great defender for them, but he's already off to a really good start. Philly's defense got way better with Greenard now in the picture.
