A new edge rusher has been brought to the Philadelphia Eagles, and the fan base couldn't be happier to have him join forces with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

The Eagles made a trade with the Minnesota Vikings to acquire Jonathan Greenard and a seventh-round pick. Philly got rid of a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick. Greenard shared his thoughts on playing under Fangio as the 2026 season begins.

“I know that he's a genius for a reason and one of the best in the game for a reason," Greenard said via NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark. "So I'm excited to see what he's going to draw up. I can't wait to be a part of it.”

The last time the Eagles traded a third-round pick to a team for an edge rusher, Fangio was a big fan of that guy, too. Of course, that was Jaelan Phillips, who finished the 2025 season in the top 10 in pressures and hurries. Phillips has since signed with the Carolina Panthers in free agency for a four-year, $120 million contract.

Philly instead of matching that deal, they decided to trade for Greenard and sign him to a four-year, $100 million contract extension with the Eagles. They are getting a great edge rusher who is coming off an injury that cost him five games, but can still play at a high level.

In 2024 when he was healthy, Greenard had 12 sacks and made his first Pro Bowl of his career. The previous season before that with the Houston Texans, he has 12.5 sacks.

Eagles fans are worried about Greenard bouncing back from injury and getting back to his 2024 form. If he can do that, Philly might have landed a better option than Phillips.
