The excitement is being felt all over the city as the Philadelphia Eagles' trade for edge rusher Jonathan Greenard has quickly helped fans forget about Jaelan Phillips.

Philly made the trade for Greenard, sending two third-round picks to the Minnesota Vikings and giving him a four-year, $100 million contract extension. One question Eagles fans have had, though, is whether Greenard is good after dealing with a shoulder injury and missing five games last year. The 2024 Pro Bowler made sure to ease fans' minds with an update on the shoulder.

"I feel good," Greenard said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "They don't want me to say it, but if we had to play, I could play. So ultimately, man, I feel good. I'm in a good spot, and coming here with the best trainers as well, and the best doctors."

Jonathan Greenard "feels good" going into the 2026 season with Eagles

The Eagles fan base hopes that Greenard is ready to go, as he will be desperately needed for the Birds after an up-and-down 2025 season with the pass rush. Philly struggled in the first half of the year as one of the worst in the NFL in sacks, but recovered as one of the best by the end of the year after acquiring Phillips from the Miami Dolphins.

One huge difference between Greenard and Phillips is that Greenard has been more likely to rack up the sacks. Before last year, Greenard had back-to-back seasons with at least 12 sacks, while Phillips's career-high is just eight.

Greenard rolls into the 2026 season as the number one pass rusher on the Eagles, with Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt as the other two who will help out. Hunt was the leader on the team in sacks last year with six, and Smith should have more motivation after the Eagles just picked up his fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

The Eagles have the makings of having another stellar season with rushing the passer, but it all falls on whether Greenard is truly 100% and gets back to his 2024 form.
