The rumor mill is swirling around a potential trade for defensive end Maxx Crosby, and the Philadelphia Eagles are widely touted among his primary suitors. Offensive tackle Lane Johnson did nothing to quash the buzz with a not-so-subtle social media post that whipped the fan base into a frenzy.
It looked for a long time as if Crosby would be staying put with the Las Vegas Raiders. The tide is slowly turning, with several NFL insiders sensing that those in power are becoming more receptive to offers when the compensation matches their demands. Given general manager Howie Roseman's willingness to make deals, he's more than capable of shooting his shot.
After Jordan Schultz's report on Crosby's availability sent social media ablaze, Johnson poured gasoline on the fire about the Eagles' potential involvement. It might have been tongue-in-cheek, but this is a reactionary world where everything — especially at this time of year — gets taken out of context.
Lane Johnson whips Eagles fans into a frenzy over potential Maxx Crosby trade
One cryptic post could mean something, or it could mean nothing. But all it did was fan the flames of another blockbuster transaction involving the Eagles that would shake the NFL to its foundations if Roseman pulled it off.

The Eagles have a need on the defensive edge. Jaelan Phillips is a free agent and may not be back. Nolan Smith failed to build on an encouraging sophomore campaign. Nothing else jumps off the depth chart, so a situation could emerge where Roseman goes all-in for Crosby with the team's Super Bowl window firmly open.
Crosby is a genuine game-wrecker. His relentless motor, fearless persona, and eye-popping combination of speed to power would completely transform how the Eagles go about their business defensively. With two space eaters in Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis demanding significant attention on the interior, the five-time Pro Bowler would get more freedom than ever to wreak havoc. That's a scary proposition for anybody.
The cost will be steep. Crosby is still performing at an elite level, and he's got a lot of good football left in the tank. Multiple first-round picks and more are the reported asking price. But if this is the move Roseman believes can get the Eagles back to Super Bowl favoritism, he won't hesitate to pull the trigger.
It's a fluid situation. The Raiders would probably like a quick resolution to this saga, especially with so many other critical roster moves to get through. If they are willing to part ways with Crosby, Roseman knows how to strike with conviction to seal the deal.
And who knows, perhaps Johnson knows more than he's letting on.
