The Philadelphia Eagles' fourth day of training camp started out with an interesting moment on the field that is going to be talked about.

Eagles reporters noticed some players who were missing from practice. That's because four of them were excused from practicing for the day.

  • Jihaad Campbell, LB
  • Ta’Quon Graham, DT
  • Lane Johnson, OT
  • Elijah Moore, WR

Philly is also dealing with some early injury problems with offensive tackle Cameron Williams (knee) and safety Cole Wisniewski (hamstring). It's just the only player on the list that has Eagles fans more concerned than anything based on recent history: Lane Johnson.

Questions have to be asked about Lane Johnson after training camp absence

Sure, this could be overreacting to a small issue. Players miss practice all the time throughout a long four- to five-week training camp.

Johnson not practicing is noteworthy, though, after what happened last season. He missed the last eight games of the regular season and playoffs with his foot injury. Throughout the early part of the season, Johnson kept getting hurt, including the Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

It appeared at OTAs that Johnson was 100% healthy and ready to go for the 2026 season, which is good. This just leaves a few questions that Eagles fans have to wonder.

Is Johnson truly 100%? OTAs showed that he seemed to be just fine. Even early in training camp, he looked okay.

Something to monitor is how the Eagles will handle Johnson moving forward. Load management might be a term that will get thrown around with the starting right tackle. He is getting up there in age, and the Eagles need to protect him from injury at all costs because he is too important to the franchise.

This might be a good thing for the Eagles, though, as it will give their rookie Markel Bell some reps for the first time. The same thing happened at OTAs as well, so this could be seen as a positive for the franchise's future.

Still, this is worth monitoring for the rest of training camp to see how much Johnson practices and plays during preseason games. The hope is that nothing is too serious and that this is just the Eagles being cautious. If the Eagles want to make the Super Bowl this season, they need Johnson on the field.
