While the media was not allowed to be at the team's walkthroughs on Day 3, there was plenty of buzz around the first two days of Philadelphia Eagles training camp.
The defense has been the star of camp with how well the unit has played. They shined on Day 2 with three interceptions off of quarterback Cole Payton and generated pressure up front with starter Jalen Hurts.
Philly has seen the usual suspects like Quinyon Mitchell already get praised; guys like Jalyx Hunt are making a huge impact right away for the team. There's one player, though, the Eagles are waiting to have a breakout practice from at some point during training camp.
Eagles are ready for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to dominate training camp
With Nakobe Dean in training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders, the door has finally opened for Trotter to have his time in the spotlight. Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell are still the starters, but Trotter is expected to have a much bigger role in this defense.
After Day 2 of Eagles training camp, NBC Sports Philadelphia's Dave Zangaro shared some key observations from the practice. Zangaro detailed the defense and how the linebackers are shaping up.
"Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell are obviously the starting linebackers but Jeremiah Trotter does mix in from time to time. Fangio said it’s important at linebacker and safety for those guys to feel comfortable with multiple combinations. For the most part, Trotter and Smael Mondon were the twos, followed by Chance Campbell and rookie Deontae Lawson."
Trotter appears to be getting some of the first-team reps with Baun and Campbell. That was expected and honestly encouraged by everyone who watches the Eagles.
In 2025, Trotter racked up 32 tackles, two quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss in 17 games. His shining moment came in Week 18 against the Washington Commanders when he had 12 tackles, two quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss.
So far, there hasn't been too much noise about the defense outside of Hunt and the defensive line. That's because most of the attention has been on how the offense is looking with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
Last year at training camp, Trotter definitely made some noise and got everyone to buy into the idea that he could be a future starter. That might not happen for him right away this season, but he at least will finally get some reps on the field instead of just being on special teams.

It's only a matter of time before Trotter has a breakout practice with the Eagles in training camp. Eagles fans have to give him time, and when it happens, it's going to be awesome to watch.
