That makes sense.

Going into the offseason, one of the biggest questions is whether the Philadelphia Eagles are going to have their star right tackle, Lane Johnson, back for another season or if he finally hangs up the cleats.

Johnson got off to an impressive start to the season for the Eagles before missing the last eight games of the season due to a foot injury. With his injury and guys like Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens playing hurt throughout the year, the Eagles, for the first time in a long time, have a lot of questions about the offensive line.

The Athletic's Dane Brugler released his latest 2026 NFL mock draft with the Eagles picking at 23. Brugler has Philly going offensive line and selecting Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor.

"At 6-7, 360, Proctor is a massive blocker with unique talent, which is exactly what the Eagles and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland target up front. With Landon Dickerson’s future in doubt, and given Tyler Steen’s inconsistent play, Proctor would provide immediate competition at guard and a long-term option at tackle."

Could Kadyn Proctor be the next great Eagles lineman?

The Eagles have a history of trusting how Alabama develops its offensive linemen. Both their starting guards, Dickerson and Tyler Steen, both played for the Crimson Tide before the Eagles drafted them.

Proctor is a typical Stoutland lineman, versatile and able to move better than his size suggests. In his three years at Alabama, Proctor made the All-SEC team two years in a row in 2024 and 2025 and was named an All-American this year.

Philly's depth on the offensive line would be better with Proctor there, as he could end up starting in place of Steen at right guard or at least fill in at guard or tackle as a swing lineman. Proctor could be seen as the Eagles' future right tackle as fans wait to hear about Johnson's status for the 2026 season.

This is uncharted territory for the Eagles to have so many questions on the offensive line that has been among the best in the NFL for the better part of a decade. With injury issues among the starters and Johnson mulling retirement, the Eagles need to build for the future and find the right pieces, and Proctor would be another Howie Roseman steal in the NFL Draft.
