While some of the upcoming free agents for the Philadelphia Eagles have murkier futures, others seem like near locks to stay.
Eagles safety Reed Blankenship has been a great story since joining the team as an undrafted free agent and is now a veteran. With so much being leaned on for Blankenship to help Philly out in the secondary, the thought of him not coming back is a scary one for the team.
FOX NFL reporter Greg Auman shared his list of the top 100 free agents in the NFL entering the 2026 offseason and what their potential fits are. Auman shared some info on what to expect for Blankenship entering free agency.
"Blankenship, 26, was undrafted when he first came to the Eagles and has become a three-year starter and a key piece on their 2024 Super Bowl championship team. He had seven interceptions in 2023-24 but took a step back in 2025. Will the Eagles seek change in their secondary or pay to keep him around? He re-signed a year ago for $3.5 million as a restricted free agent but should command double that now on the open market."
Will the Eagles bring back Reed Blankenship for the 2026 season?
Some actually consider the 2025 campaign a down season for the four-year safety, and in some aspects, it was not the same kind of performance he had in 2024. Blankenship finished with 83 tackles, four pass deflections, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 16 games.
The struggles came in coverage as he did not have the kind of season Eagles fans were hoping for. He allowed a completion percentage of 68.4 and a passer rating of 100.5, both of which are the second-highest of his career, as he was targeted 38 times and allowed 26 completions.
Blankenship has been known as a ballhawk in the secondary, recording seven interceptions between 2023 and 2024 but only one in 2025. His coverage skills were not quite there, but some of that could be because rookie second-round pick Andrew Mukuba was back there and struggled with coverage himself. That put more pressure on Blankenship to step up.

Even with the down season, Blankenship is an important piece to this secondary as a veteran among very young players. If it will cost the team $7 million a season to keep him around, the Eagles should try to strike a deal and bring him back.
