For the second straight offseason, one Philadelphia Eagles storyline that is not as talked about but is on the back of every fan's mind is what will happen with backup quarterback Tanner McKee.

Ever since McKee had that great start back in 2024 against the New York Giants to close out the season, there have been trade rumors that would send him elsewhere. While there was early chatter this offseason about trading him, those talks have died down, with a recent report that the New York Jets are backing off because Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is looking for a second- or third-round pick for McKee.

The latest quarterback trade saw the Jets send Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick. That trade could have quite an impact on any future trade with McKee.

Eagles might have to face reailty with a Tanner McKee trade

McKee has made only two starts in his NFL career, going 1-1 in those games, with his most recent a loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 18 last year. In his six regular season appearances, he completed 61.4% of his passes for 597 yards and five touchdowns to one interception.

Roseman might have to come to terms with the fact that a second or third round pick might be a bit too high for teams to pay for a quarterback who has only two starts. McKee possesses all the traits to be a potential starting quarterback in this league, but might need more time to develop and play on the field.

At the same time, Roseman might also realize this reality and make that kind of offer because he doesn't want to lose McKee. It feels similar to what Roseman is dealing with regarding a potential A.J. Brown trade, and he is purposely asking for a high price since he doesn't necessarily want to make a move.

Roseman has been known for wanting the Eagles to be a "QB factory" and isn't afraid to stock up on good quarterbacks. McKee has been a solid backup over the last three years for Philly, and Roseman doesn't want to go through the trouble of finding one when he already has a great one.

Certainly, things could change in the next two months, but it feels as though the asking price from Roseman is too high, and McKee will be an Eagle in 2026. Philly fans won't complain too much about that, though.
