Philadelphia Eagles fans can be excited about missing out on Matt Nagy after hiring Sean Mannion to be the new offensive coordinator, but Nagy isn't going too far away from Philly.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the New York Giants have hired Nagy to be their new offensive coordinator. The Giants initially hoped to land former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken for the job after John Harbaugh, but when Monken became the Cleveland Browns head coach, they had to settle for Nagy.
The Eagles initially interviewed Nagy for their offensive coordinator role before going with Mannion. Philly wanted to go with a new, more innovative coach rather than an experienced one.
Matt Nagy joins the New York Giants as their OC
Nagy is a familiar name in Philadelphia, as he coached the Eagles from 2008 through 2012. He started as a coaching intern before becoming the offensive quality control coach in 2012.
Eagles fans can be happy that they passed up on Nagy as while he is more experience than Mannion, this offense needed more innovation in the offense. At 33, Mannion can do that based on working with great offensive minds like Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur.
If Nagy had been hired by the Eagles, that wouldn't have been an inspiring hire for the fan base that needs something different. Experience is nice, but in this NFL, the offense has been creative and different from anything else out there.
That's what made the Eagles' offense struggle so much in 2025 under Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator: hitch routes by receivers and a running game that wouldn't work on first and second down.

The Giants can enjoy Nagy, while Eagles fans will appreciate Mannion bringing his style to the offense.
