As bad as the Philadelphia Eagles' Week 5 loss was, other NFC East teams had performed much worse.

The Dallas Cowboys found themselves on the losing end of a 24-16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers win on Thursday night. Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker is really helping the Eagles out by leading one of the NFL's worst defenses, allowing at least 375 yards in each of the first five games of the season, tied for the eighth-worst in league history.

As for the New York Giants and the Washington Commanders, neither team could decide a winner, as the game ended in a 27-27 tie. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels completely botched the clock in overtime and ran out of time despite being well into field goal range.

It's actually the first time in NFL history that a whole division went winless despite two members facing each other.

After all of that, it is pretty clear to everyone that the NFC East might arguably be the worst division in the NFL. That works out perfectly for the Eagles, as they are still in the thick of things.

Eagles are not completely out of the NFC East race after five weeks

Let's first take a look at how the NFC East standings look entering Week 6:

1. New York Giants (3-1-1)
2. Philadelphia Eagles (2-3)
3. Dallas Cowboys (2-3)
4. Washington Commanders (1-3-1)

The Eagles are still in second place because they have the better winning percentage in the NFC East. Dallas is 1-1, while the Eagles are 1-0, so that Week 1 win over the Commanders, as ugly as it was, is really helping Philly right now.

Few people believe in the Giants right now, since Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns are out for the season with serious injuries. They have gotten lucky with a cupcake schedule to start the year, but when they play the Eagles in a few weeks, that will certainly change things.

Dallas has one of the worst defenses in the NFL and a wide receiver room with a massive drop problem (but surprisingly, it's not coming from the drop king himself, CeeDee Lamb). Changes are expected. Changes to the Cowboys' coaching staff and lineup could affect the outcome.

Most people are just waiting for Daniels to get hurt again for the Commanders, since he rushed back from a serious elbow injury and is just wearing his brace. Washington looks like a team that, even with Daniels back, could fire Dan Quinn at the end of the season, or even before then.

Now, the Eagles are not exactly in the best position as a team either. They have all kinds of injuries and an offense that is in the bottom 10 in total offense, rushing, passing, and scoring.

Even with all that, the NFC East is such a mess that the Eagles still have a legit shot at turning things around and winning the division. At this point, it might take just eight or nine wins to win it, and once the Eagles are 100% healthy, they could get there, so there's still hope they make it there for the postseason.
