It's just another day in the neighborhood for the Philadelphia Eagles as another update on the potential A.J. Brown trade adds the wrinkle fans have already heard before.
Brown has been expected to get traded to the New England Patriots for months now due to previously playing under head coach Mike Vrabel, but the Eagles have resisted due to the financial aspect of Brown's contract, leaving June 1 as an important date as if the team waits to trade him after that date, then they would save $7 million against the cap and the dead cap gets cut in half. Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer gave his update on what he is hearing about the trade that now changes the narrative back to something Eagles fans have heard before.
“My understanding is the framework is in place for a trade to be made early next week that’ll make A.J. Brown a Patriot.”
Albert Breer believes a deal is already in place between Eagles and Patriots
Over the last few days, Eagles fans were told otherwise by reporters. The updates before Breer's report were that the Patriots were hesitant to make the trade for Brown because they did not want to give up a first-round pick.
What Breer said is what Eagles fans had been told previously that a deal in general is already in place. There will most likely be some kind of negotiation happening again during the weekend and on June 1, but there is at least something that is in place.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman wants a first-round pick for Brown at this point for him to view the trade as fair. Philly gave up a first-rounder for Brown back in 2022, and with him still playing like a top-10 receiver, it only seems right to give him up for a first-rounder. The only question is whether the Eagles can get that first-rounder in 2027 or 2028.
A lot of what is happening right now is negotiation tactics being shoved to the media to deliver the message. The Patriots and Eagles are trying to shape their own narratives about the trade and see whether it goes in their favor to raise or lower the price.

Eagles fans just want to be done with it so they can move on with their lives, so June 1 can't come any quicker for them.
