While Philadelphia Eagles fans were a bit nervous about the latest Brendan Sorsby situation, a potential drama-filled move they could have made has been put on hold by the NFL.

Multiple sources reported that the NFL sent a letter to Sorsby and all 32 teams that the Supplemental Draft was not going to happen, leaving Sorsby with no path to play in the league in 2026 and must wait until the 2027 NFL Draft. Sorsby's lawyers are planning to take action against the NFL to try to get him into the league.

Sorsby was ruled ineligible to play in college during the 2026 season due to gambling on multiple college football games. He had originally been issued a temporary injunction to play for Texas Tech this year, but when the Big 12 filed in federal court to punish Sorsby and the Red Raiders, Sorsby withdrew and declared for the Supplemental Draft.

Eagles avoid massive distraction with possibly selecting Brendan Sorsby

Eagles were a part of rumors that general manager Howie Roseman would potentially look at selecting Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft. NFL insider Jason La Canfora shared that one general manager thought Roseman would try to pick him before the latest update.

Roseman has said in the past that he wanted the Eagles to be a "QB factory," and his actions have backed that up. He said that after the Jalen Hurts draft pick in 2020, he has proved it through trades and signings for guys like Kenny Pickett, Gardner Minshew, and, recently, Andy Dalton.

Many Eagles fans were worried that Roseman might bring in Sorsby as the backup and a potential replacement after recent reports that the team does not believe in Hurts. This move by the NFL will stop the Eagles from making that kind of decision for the time being.

Philly is already loaded at quarterback behind Hurts with Dalton, Tanner McKee, and rookie fifth-round pick Cole Payton all competing for roster spots. It seems unlikely the Eagles would add another quarterback to the roster, as they might have to make a decision at training camp on who is the odd man out if they hold just three on the roster.

Sorsby is going to be a great quarterback as he's got all the talent in the world, but the last thing this Eagles team needs is another massive distraction on their hands after just trading A.J. Brown away and finally getting some peace and quiet. This is one where Roseman should sit out and move on. The NFL made sure to help the Eagles out with that.
