The Philadelphia Eagles are now 2-2 on the season after a rather inexcusable home loss to the Los Angeles Rams in a game where the Eagles had a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter. There were so many issues to note from this game, and after a month of the season, it's not clear what the Eagles do well.

In fact, they don't do anything well, and that's a problem. While no team is perfect, the best teams in the league are all able to excel at at least one thing. Unless something radical somehow changes, this will simply turn out to be a lost season for Philadelphia.

Let's see where they stand in our updated NFC East power rankings.

Philadelphia Eagles don't feel like a playoff team, and the NFC East rankings prove it

4. Washington Commanders (1-3)

Speaking of teams that do nothing well, the Washington Commanders are one of them. Now 1-3 in the season, the only thing going for this team is that they could get Jayden Daniels back for Week 5, but even his return might not make a huge difference, since this roster is flawed and the coaching staff has regressed since their shocking, much-of-an-only-out season in 2024. This feels like an irrelevant team for the second year in a row.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)

Yes, the Eagles are banged up, but does that excuse them from going 0/12 on third down or averaging just three yards per play...?

This team got outclassed by the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, and, typically, most teams that aren't among the worst in the NFL have something to be optimistic about. I am not sure if you can pinpoint a single thing of note going that way for Philly. This season could spiral out of control if things don't get fixed immediately.

2. New York Giants (3-1)

The New York Giants, of all teams, are 3-1. The Giants are seeing why hiring John Harbaugh was the right move, as he has been able to guide this team nicely following the injury to Jaxson Dart. The Giants aren't going to make the playoffs or anything, as quarterback Jameis Winston is too much of a loose cannon at times, but a 3-1 record is just that.

New York has started out the season nicely and is, if nothing else, a frisky team that could steal a few more wins from their tougher opponents this year. They overtake the Eagles in the NFC East.

1. Dallas Cowboys (2-2)

You might laugh at me ranking the Dallas Cowboys as the best team in the NFC East, but the Cowboys have the best unit in the division - their offense is top-tier, and that is the thing the Cowboys do well.

No other unit, whether offense or defense, from any other team in the NFC East is as good as the Cowboys' offense, so Dallas takes the No. 1 spot in our power rankings. Yes, their defense has been abysmal, but it is banged up right now.

The Cowboys do have enough talent on that side of the ball to not be terrible this year, and with them having come off a rather nice win after a brutal loss the previous week, their response and continued offensive fireworks are good enough to rank them atop the division.
