Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman pulled off a great trade to acquire edge rusher Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings.
While the Eagles had to offload two third-round picks, they are still getting a third-rounder next year for losing Jaelan Phillips in free agency, so basically they got Greenard for a third-rounder and had to pay roughly $30 million less to do it. A typical Roseman magic move was made.
Bleacher Report writer Moe Moton looked at the 25 best moves of the offseason. Between 20 and 16, the Eagles getting Greenard in a trade was ranked there.
"Once again, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman found a way to strengthen his team at the line of scrimmage. He sent 2026 and 2027 third-rounders to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2026 seventh-round pick and Jonathan Greenard, who logged 12-plus sacks in 2023 and 2024. If he bounces back from an injury-riddled 2025 campaign, the 29-year-old will lead the Eagles in sacks this year."
Jonathan Greenard being traded to the Eagles is one of the best offseason moves
From the money the Eagles saved to the value they got from Greenard, it makes sense that this was a home run of a move. He is going to be the top pass rusher on the team and give the Eagles exactly what they need.
Greenard's impact is going to be massive on a pass rusher who needs it. While Phillips was a great player to trade for in the middle of last year, he did not get the kind of sack numbers that Greenard is capable of getting.
Those 12 sacks plus in each of the 2023 and 2024 seasons would be a dream season for any edge rusher on the Eagles. In fact, the last player on the Eagles to have 10 or more sacks in a season is crazy enough: four players in 2022 between Haason Reddick (16), Javon Hargrave (11), Brandon Graham (11), and Josh Sweat (11).

Since then, it has been tough for any Eagles player to get any traction with sacks, as Jalyx Hunt led the way last year with 6.5. While getting pressure on the quarterback is great, Greenard has the potential to fix a major problem with this defense, moving them from a great defense to an elite one in 2026.
