The Philadelphia Eagles are certainly making sure they have all their ducks in a row for the offensive coordinator opening, but head coach Nick Sirianni is making sure he brings in guys he knows and trusts for the role.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Eagles are scheduled to interview Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson for the offensive coordinator role. Johnson has been the Texans' QB coach since 2023 and previously served as the Vikings' assistant quarterback coach in 2022.

Sirianni and Johnson know each other from their time with the Indianapolis Colts. Sirianni promoted Johnson to offensive quality control coach in 2020, when he was the offensive coordinator, after Johnson completed the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship in 2019 with the Colts.

Nick Sirianni might be considering a reunion for the Eagles' OC job

The Eagles are not going to leave any stone unturned, as everyone is getting their chance to interview for the job. This search has attracted at least 20 candidates to meet with the Eagles about the opening.

Johnson is an intriguing candidate as he doesn't have any offensive coordinator or play-calling experience, which will 100% scare off any Eagles fans after what they had to deal with Kevin Patullo in the same situation in 2025. One thing that works in Johnson's favor is the work he has done with Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and the strides he has made over the years, making Houston a playoff contender each year.

Eagles fans would prefer someone with experience as an offensive coordinator, even if they don't have play-calling experience. An example is Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, who hasn't called plays yet in his career but is one of the NFL's bright minds, so that might be worth taking more of the risk.

Johnson is a bit of a stretch as offensive coordinator, and it might scare off the fan base in Philly. Could he realistically land the job for the Eagles in 2026?
