The Philadelphia Eagles are still trying to decide who will be their offensive coordinator, with more names dropping out of the candidate pool.

Top guys like Mike McDaniel, Brian Daboll, and Zac Robinson are already off the market, leaving the Eagles to either scrape at the bottom of the barrel for coaches or take a massive risk on a high-potential candidate. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler believes that might be the route the Eagles take on the next offensive coordinator role, adding a little bit of hope about a once-thought-of-lost candidate for the job.

"Philly's search has been all over the map, and the team is still submitting requests for interviews. I'm not totally convinced former Giants head coach Brian Daboll is off the table, though there's not much buzz there at the moment. Chicago offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is a name to watch. The Bears did not block Philly's request to interview Doyle, which means he's free to make the lateral move. Some see him as head coach material, and this job can be a springboard if the new playcaller improves Hurts' performance."

Brian Daboll might still be there, but would Declan Doyle make sense for Eagles?

The reality is that if Daboll can somehow be persuaded to join the Eagles' coaching staff, that has to be the route Philly takes. Daboll has worked with Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley in the past and made Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen into the player he is today, so that's still a no-brainer hire.

As for whether Doyle is worth the risk as a first-time play caller for the Eagles, the upside potential is there. He helped the Bears' offense go from the bottom 10 in the NFL in 2024 to a top-five unit in 2025, and he worked with quarterback Caleb Williams on his development. This is obviously a smart, young, bright coach who will be a force in the next few years.

That's where some of the concern comes from, Doyle, though, is that he is young, as he will turn 30 this year. He's never been a play caller as Bears head coach Ben Johnson does that in Chicago, and Doyle has only been an offensive coordinator for one year. For a team that just removed a first-time play caller in Kevin Patullo after one year, this might send the wrong message out.

There are still more veteran coordinators out there, like Kliff Kingsbury and Mike Kafka, that should be considered first before going the Doyle route, but at this point, who knows what the Eagles are thinking for their offensive coordinator role?
