The Philadelphia Eagles are really opening up the offensive coordinator job to pretty much anyone, and a new contender is joining.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the Eagles have requested to interview Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for their opening at the same job. Doyle just completed his first season as the offensive coordinator of the Bears, helping them make the playoffs with an 11-6 record and win the NFC North.
The Eagles and Bears are familiar with each other, as Chicago beat Philadelphia 24-15 on Black Friday earlier in the season. The Bears' win helped them earn the number two seed, while the Eagles were the number three seed.
What to make of Declan Doyle as a candidate for Eagles OC job
Doyle is one of the youngest assistant coaches in the NFL, as he will be 30 when the 2026 season kicks off. He built a strong reputation as a Sean Payton assistant with the New Orleans Saints and the Denver Broncos.
Chicago's offense ranked in the top five in the NFL, with most of the damage done on the ground. The Bears ranked second in the league in rushing in 2025, averaging over 150 yards per game.
For what the Eagles need, Doyle fits the profile and has obvious potential. In just one year as the Bears' offensive coordinator, the rushing attack improved, and he helped develop quarterback Caleb Williams.
One concern for the Eagles, though, is that Doyle has zero experience calling the plays on offense. Bears head coach Ben Johnson did all the play-calling, so this would be giving the keys to someone with a learner's permit.

This would be one of the riskiest hires the Eagles could make, and it would go completely against what they are looking for in an offensive coordinator. Philly is at least open to any idea now, but one that might be too risky to take on for the most important position on the staff.
