PFF's highest-graded Eagles from win over Jaguars offers some surprises
It's something about subscriptions. We'll do anything to avoid one. We're damn proud to admit this. You don't know how many time we've set mobile reminders to inform ourselves when a free trial ends. Football does something to us though. We're all about digesting every little detail about the Philadelphia Eagles we can find, so alas, year after year, we pay Pro Football Focus for the premium subscription.
It isn't just PFF either. If you hated math like I did in high school, you're probably asking yourselves the same questions I am. When did I grow into someone who is addicted to statistics and numbers?
I smile when Saquon Barkley exceeds 20 miles per hour on a running play. Then, I look at weekly DVOA rankings even though I don't totally understand them. I juggle my Fantasy football lineup constantly, and yes I read Pro Football Focus every few hours.
Philly survived a scare vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, no thanks to their head coach. Here's a look at how PFF graded some of the heroes.
Here are the 15 highest-graded Eagles from their Week 9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- LB Zack Baun (92.6)
- LB Nakobe Dean (92.3)
- RG Mekhi Becton (92.0)
- RT Lane Johnson (86.4)
- LG Landon Dickerson (82.3)
- QB Jalen Hurts (79.9)
- DT Jalen Carter (79.5)
- EDGE Josh Sweat (75.9)
- WR DeVonta Smith (75.3)
- FS Reed Blankenship (71.7)
- TE-R E.J. Jenkins (70.7)
- CB Cooper DeJean (70.6)
- WR AJ Brown (65.5)
- DT Moro Ojomo (64.0)
- WR Jahan Dotson (63.5)
Here are a few random thoughts:
Who knew Mekhi Becton did that good of a job? They used to say offensive linemen do a great job when we don't mention them, but in the current NFL, we discuss great trench stars constantly.
We would have probably graded Sydney Jones higher simply for separating Austin Trammell from the football on that first Eagles punt. Some might argue that one play wouldn't affect his grade significantly, but if that's true, how do you explain a 63.5 grade for Jahan Dotson?
Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean have shined as of late. Another impressive week for both of them has significantly raised their approval ratings. Both hauled in interceptions. Baun's shifted momentum. Dean's preserved a victory.
Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith combined for one of the most beautiful TD passes/receptions you'll ever see, and they did it while facing a 3rd-and-22 scenario no less. Again, PFF doesn't ask us to help with rankings. Maybe they shouldn't because that alone would influence us to bump their grades up into the 90s.
But, again, what do we know? Again, we just want you to know how impressed we were.
