The storyline this offseason has been all focused on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and how he should be viewed as a quarterback.
ESPN had a report that Hurts was slammed by sources for not being coachable and changing the plays. This has caused many analysts to be more open about saying that he's not one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL.
So what is the best and worst parts about Hurts' game? He does have a clear con, but the pros outweigh that con to the point that he should be considered an elite quarterback.
Pros and con to Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback of the Eagles
Pro: Jalen Hurts is a proven winner
As a starter, Hurts has gone 57-25 during the regular season, which is a 69.5% winning percentage. Every season he has been the full time starting quarterback, Hurts has led the Eagles to a winning record.
Some analysts hate this argument that Hurts is a proven winner as it doesn't apply to his skills on the field. This is not true as he has the clutch gene that makes him the guy the Eagles turn to when the game is on the line. Not every quarterback has that.
Con: Jalen Hurts is not always willing to run the football
Last year, it was pretty clear that Hurts was more hesitant to run the football, and multiple reports backed this up. He had under 600 rushing yards during the season for the first time since his rookie year in 2020.
This Eagles offense is better with Hurts running the football in some capacity and if defenses know he's not willing to do it, they will put less in the box or just go after Saquon Barkley on RPO plays. If the fan base does want to see Hurts do one thing, it's running the ball more.
Pro: When Jalen Hurts does run, he's elite
Hurts' athleticism can't be denied as he is fast and can move better than most of the quarterbacks in the NFL. He is great when running play action plays and being able to use his legs to move out of the pocket. When the Eagles run RPO plays, Hurts can throw a defense off guard as long as he is willing to run the ball.
Pro: Jalen Hurts has good deep ball accuracy
Many analysts will tell Eagles fans that Hurts doesn't throw a good deep ball at all. That's not true. He has completed 64.4% of his passes that are 20 or more yards down the field. Eagles fans shouldn't buy into that false narrative, as he has great deep-ball accuracy.

Pro: Jalen Hurts is great throwing the ball down the field
Again, another false narrative is spreading that Hurts is not good at throwing the football in the middle of the field. The fact is that he has completed 77.9% of his passes for 855 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions since 2022. His 123.7 passer rating with passes between the hashmarks is second only to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
The problem is that Hurts hasn't had enough opportunities to throw it in the middle of the field and some of the mistakes have fallen on his receivers. He is not as bad as everyone would like Eagles fans to believe. He can get it done.
