Many Philadelphia Eagles fans were surprised to see tight end Dallas Goedert back in the midnight green for the second straight season, but no one is complaining.
Goedert had a pretty solid season for the Eagles in 2025, recording career-highs in receptions (60) and touchdowns (11), also putting up 591 yards. The 11 touchdowns were a franchise record for tight ends in a season, proving that he's still got it. That helped set him up with a one-year contract in the offseason to stay put in Philly.
Pro Football Focus writers Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick shared their rankings of the best tight ends in the NFL entering 2026. They had Goedert ranked 17th on the list.
"Goedert found pay dirt as much as any tight end in the NFL this past season. His 11 receiving touchdowns were tied with Trey McBride for the most in the league. Goedert’s 4,342 receiving yards over the past seven years are also fifth in the NFL."

Last season, Goedert was more of a red-zone threat, picking up multiple touchdowns that were five yards or less. That doesn't mean that his quarterback, Jalen Hurts, didn't enjoy hitting him in stride with the seam routes.
2026 is going to be interesting for Goedert, as it could be a great season for him, or he might get swallowed up by all the playmakers around him. The Eagles added three key new receivers to the offense and drafted Goedert's eventual replacement, Eli Stowers, in the second round.
Stowers had a quiet OTAs, which might work in Goedert's advantage. The Eagles are expected to run more 12-personnel with two tight ends, but Hurts trusts Goedert more than most of the pass catchers outside of DeVonta Smith, so Goedert should still get his targets.
Sure, Goedert may not be the same tight end he was a few years ago, but he should still be considered a top-10 tight end in this league. He runs a great route, has strong hands, and can produce as a blocker.

The future is uncertain for Goedert after the 2026 season, but he appears to be one of the top guys in Philly entering the year. He deserves more respect than what he got from Pro Football Focus.
