It was a rough evening for all Philadelphia Eagles fans, players, coaches, staff members, and the city in general, as the Seattle Seahawks claimed the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots, 29-13.
Eagles fans had to witness the greatness in the Seahawks' defense, which pitched a shutout for the first three quarters, forcing six sacks and three turnovers in the victory. It was a good blueprint of what works in the NFL and what made Seattle so good in the 2025 campaign.
Watching that game just served as a reminder to the Eagles of the team's most important priority. While the offense needs some work, Philly fans must remember the old saying: "Defense wins championships."
Super Bowl LX is reminder that Eagles need to improve the defense
It seems like a crazy thing to say since the Eagles were so good on defense in the second half of the season, but work is still needed. Last season, the Eagles ranked 13th in total defense and fifth in points, compared to their No. 1 ranking in total defense and No. 2 ranking in points allowed in 2024.
The first thing the Eagles need to do is re-sign edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, who had 73 pressures (ninth in the NFL), 57 hurries (fifth in the NFL), 11 quarterback hits, and five sacks during the season and in his time in Philly. Phillips will be expensive, as he is expected to receive about $17 million per season for his next contract, but he made such a difference to this defense that it needs to happen.
Next up will be bringing back safety Reed Blankenship to help the secondary out. One other big free agent is linebacker Nakobe Dean, but the price needs to be right to bring him back in 2026.
During free agency and the draft, the Eagles have to find a more suitable CB2 for Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo could not get the job done last season, so adding a new starting corner would help out.

All the focus will be on the offense and fixing it, but improving the defense and making it elite like it was in 2024 will only increase the chances of the Eagles getting back to the Super Bowl and winning it all at the end of the 2026 season.
