Philadelphia Eagles fans are now sitting back in their chairs, left scratching their heads, after what happened with the offensive coordinator search.
After the Eagles removed Kevin Patullo from the job, there was hope that someone like Brian Daboll and Mike McDaniel would be a perfect fit for what seemed like one of the best openings in the NFL. The reality is that McDaniel is now taking the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator job, and Daboll will either be the Buffalo Bills' head coach or the Tennessee Titans' offensive coordinator.
This now leaves the Eagles with a very tough situation at offensive coordinator, as they have lost their top two candidates and are now left scrambling to find the third-best option. What does this say about the Eagles and their offensive coordinator opening?
Eagles' OC job might not be a desirable role for any coach to take
What a bad look it is for McDaniel to be a top candidate and never come in for an interview. It might even be worse than one interview and all the connections Daboll has with the Eagles: that he would rather be the offensive coordinator for one of the worst teams in the NFL in 2025.
This could be a sign of a few problems the Eagles might have on their team. The big thing with Daboll and McDaniel is that they will have full control over their offenses. It leaves some wondering whether the Eagles are even offering that to their offensive coordinator candidates.
There could be the A.J. Brown factor as well. Brown comes with a lot of drama around him and has been for the last two years. No coach wants the pressure of having to force-feed him the football when they are trying to run their offense. Any bigger question is if Brown gets traded in the offseason, as the rumor has been, will the Eagles' offense be as good without him?
Jalen Hurts might also be playing a role in coaches' decision-making. Hurts has reportedly been less inclined to run QB-designed plays in the 2025 season, and his limitations have been pointed out. There has to be a question about whether an offensive coordinator would be willing to work with him if he doesn't want to run the football.

The reality is that the Eagles' offensive coordinator job might not be as great as fans think it is. This might not turn out the way the fan base hopes, but Eagles fans just want someone good to come in and help out with a struggling unit.
