Philadelphia Eagles fans remember fondly the moment when New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady failed to complete the Hail Mary that led to the Eagles winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history back in 2018.
Everything about Super Bowl LII was perfect, from quarterback Nick Foles winning Super Bowl MVP to Brandon Graham strip-sacking Tom Brady with under three minutes left in the game to, of course, Philly Philly. That would be considered the great game in Eagles history by many fans in Philadelphia because of what it means to the team and the fan base.
It was revenge against Brady and the Patriots' head coach, Bill Belichick, for beating them in the Super Bowl in 2005, but it was the franchise's first Super Bowl title and its first league title since 1960. Now, Eagles fans will be able to rewatch the best moments of that season once again.
New documentary will cover 2017 Eagles Super Bowl-winning season
ESPN Films will have their latest installment of the 30 for 30 documentary series cover the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles called "The Philly Special." It will focus on how one play changed everything about the Eagles' history.
That play, of course, is the previously called "Philly Philly" call. Late in the second quarter on fourth and goal, Foles went up to Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and asked him, "You want Philly Philly?" Pederson replied, "Yeah, let's do it."
After that, it was Foles moving from under center to right tackle Lane Johnson pretending to change the call, but it was a direct snap to Corey Clement, who then tossed the ball to Trey Burton just to throw it to a wide-open Foles for the touchdown. It's considered one of the gutsiest and greatest calls in Super Bowl history, as the Eagles beat the Patriots 41-33.
Philly completed that season with a 13-3 record, won the NFC East, and ran the table to win the Super Bowl. They were underdogs throughout the postseason, despite being the number one seed, because Foles replaced NFL MVP candidate Carson Wentz.
The documentary will feature interviews with Foles, Pederson, Jason Kelce, and more. It will air on ESPN on February 6 at 9:00 pm EST.
