While nothing has been officially reported, the buzz around a potential Philadelphia Eagles trade for Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has Philly fans intrigued.
Last week, The Athletic's Zach Berman wrote that if the Eagles had a shot at trading for Thomas, he thinks general manager Howie Roseman would go for it. Well, Black & Teal Jaguars expert Carlos Sanchez quickly shut that dream down, as he doesn't see it happening.
"Brown's departure left a void on offense, and Brian Thomas Jr. has been brought up as a potential answer to fill it. Granted, the Eagles added Makai Lemon and traded for Dontayvion Wicks, but neither is currently in the same echelon as Thomas. Either way, this isn't the first time Philly has been dubbed a trade destination for Thomas. That doesn't mean it will happen, though."
Eagles probably won't get Brian Thomas Jr. in a trade
Sanchez talked about the chemistry that Thomas and Trevor Lawrence have built in Jacksonville that would make it hard to justify making the trade. One rough season for Thomas isn't enough for Sanchez to be bought into a trade happening.
Thomas had an impressive start to his NFL career in 2024 after catching 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading to a Pro Bowl selection. Last year was a different story as an injury cost him three games, leading to disappointing stats: 48 receptions for 707 yards and two touchdowns.
Philly has been heavy on receivers all offseason since they nearly cleaned house in the room. The Eagles added Lemon, Wicks, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, and Elijah Moore. They also let Jahan Dotson walk in free agency and traded their top guy, A.J. Brown, to the New England Patriots.
It would be a bit odd for the Eagles to add Thomas to the room, but it would give quarterback Jalen Hurts a clear number two receiver on the outside. Thomas is more proven as a receiver versus Wicks, who has been swallowed up in the Green Bay Packers wide receiver room over the last two years.
In reality, the Eagles really don't need Thomas since Lemon appears to be the answer as WR2 in the future and Wicks has great potential. A potential addition of Thomas is more of a "nice to have" kind of situation.

Roseman has bigger fish to fry with the roster, so a trade seems unlikely. If Thomas is brought up as a possibility, though, Eagles fans know all too well that Roseman will take that call every time.
