Philadelphia Eagles fans are still feeling some kind of way about how NFL personnel ranked their star quarterback, Jalen Hurts.
As part of ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler's survey of executives, coaches, and scouts, Hurts was ranked as the 17th-best quarterback in the league. Fowler's colleague at ESPN, insider Adam Schefter, added some more context to 97.5 The Fanatic listeners on why Hurts was ranked where he was.
"It’s a reflection of the performance last year, so what this tells you is that the people in this poll were unimpressed with the way Jalen Hurts played last year. That’s what it is, cause let’s be honest, if he plays the way he did two years ago. When Jeremy Fowler does that poll next summer, he’ll be in the top 5-10 quarterbacks. So it’s a referendum on his performance, and these people tell you they were not impressed."
Adam Schefter's response may not sit well with Eagles fans
Looking at last year's performance, Hurts' accuracy was put into question after he completed only about 64% of his passes. Besides that, what was the problem with it that has everyone up in arms about how he played?
He was able to throw for over 3,200 yards, which was significantly more than in 2024, threw a career-high 25 touchdowns, and only had six interceptions. Those are numbers most starting quarterbacks who won 11 regular season games would be happy with.
Hurts has been targeted with all the blame for last year's offensive struggles, and it's simply not fair. Yes, he was far from perfect and, as the starting quarterback, he deserves some of the blame, but not all of it.
Former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo called some of the worst games the fan base has seen in decades. The offensive line suffered and played through injuries with three of its starters, causing running back Saquon Barkley and the rushing attack to struggle. Philly was ranked in the bottom 15 in all major offensive categories, including total offense, passing, rushing, and scoring.
Entering the new season, things are different with Sean Mannion as the new play-caller; everyone is healthy again, and Hurts will have a new scheme to run with. This is not going to be the same ground-and-pound rushing attack the NFL has seen from the Eagles over the last decade.

Hurts has accomplished so much in his career, and for the NFL to think he is not even a top-15 quarterback is really bothersome, especially when all he does is win. There's no doubt he will be playing with a chip on his shoulder, and the revenge tour in 2026 is going to be sweet.
