The media had one shot at getting a first look at the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles when the team opened its OTA practice to them.

All eyes were on how the offense in Philly would look under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion and how quarterback Jalen Hurts would handle it. Another noticeable aspect of the practice was who was absent: six players were not there, and three were there but did not work out.

  • A.J. Brown
  • Dontayvion Wicks
  • Jihaad Campbell
  • Joe Tryon-Shoyinka
  • Lane Johnson
  • Jalen Carter
  • Cole Wisniewski (Present but not practicing)
  • Tucker Large (Present but not practicing)
  • Chandler Martin (Present but not practicing)

Multiple players did not practice for the Eagles at OTAs

It is worth noting that these are voluntary workouts, but the Eagles usually have good player attendance. This does seem like a bit more than in the past, but not a massive concern.

Carter and Johnson might still be working toward 100% health and could sit out to recover before training camp begins. What was interesting was that rookie third-round pick Markel Bell worked out with the first team over Fred Johnson at right tackle, which could show the confidence Mannion has in Bell being the future at the position.

To no one's surprise, Brown was not there and most likely won't be at mandatory workouts next month either, if he is not traded to the New England Patriots before then, just to remove the distraction from the team. Wicks not being there is interesting since he is fighting for a starting job, but he is familiar with Mannion's offense, so it's not the end of the world.

The Athletic's Brooks Kubena added a note about seventh-round pick Wisniewski being there, but not practicing. A league source told Kubena that it doesn't indicate anything serious is wrong with Wisniewski, so fans shouldn't read too much into it. Wisniewski is expected to be in the competition for one of the starting safety jobs.

There's not much to overreact to with this news, but it is interesting to see who is on the field and who is not.
