As Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker gets settled into his new position, the former Philadelphia Eagles assistant coach continues to garner plenty of acclaim.
Parker, who spent the past two seasons in Philadelphia as the passing game coordinator and secondary coach, has ascended to the man calling the shots in the Lone Star State. Still just 34 years old, the fast-rising assistant coach is now the youngest defensive coordinator in franchise history for the Cowboys, adding further fuel to the heated rivalry between the NFC East franchises.
Conor Orr with Sports Illustrated put together his top 100 bold predictions for the upcoming NFL season, including a potential award for Parker as a finalist for Assistant Coach of the Year.
"Parker, the new Cowboys defensive coordinator, and Doyle, the new Ravens offensive coordinator, will be taking on major roles with quality teams that underperformed significantly in 2025. Parker, reviving a Cowboys defense that now has more than half the unit occupied by new starters (including the universally loved first-rounder Caleb Downs), is a likely candidate to achieve an overall performance upgrade worthy of award consideration."

The arrival of Parker, coupled with the talent overhaul on that side of the ball, puts Dallas in a strong position to make significant strides defensively.
The dynamic safety Downs out of Ohio State gives Parker an elite and versatile secondary standout to work with from the jump. Fellow rookies Malachi Lawrence and Jaishawn Barham join veteran Rashan Gary as well as former San Francisco linebacker Dee Winters to strengthen the front seven.
Having already landed star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams via trade last season, Parker's defense looks to be a much-improved unit. The Cowboys surrendered 377 yards per game last year, ranking 30th overall in team defense, so a clean slate in Big D from both a personnel and coaching perspective was sorely needed.

Back in February, Parker spoke with deep gratitude on the impact Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has had on him. Now he has his own defense to spearhead, one which happens to be a bitter rival of Fangio's, and his former team to boot.
