That's certainly one way to start the final week of the regular season.
In typical Howie Roseman style, the Philadelphia Eagles are making some odd roster moves, announcing a surprising release. The Eagles decided to let go of long snapper Charley Hughlett.
Philly's primary starter at long snapper just came back from his core muscle injury that caused him to miss nine games during the regular season. Cal Adomitis replaced him during that time, while Hughlett was out.
There's more to it than just a simple release for Roseman and the Eagles
One thing Eagles fans have learned about Roseman over the years is that he is prone to making these kinds of moves to play some roster gymnastics. It would be stunning to see Hughlett actually be gone from the team past the next few days.
Something to keep in mind is that the Eagles' other long snapper this season, Adomitis, is currently on the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad. While Philly could technically go sign him, it feels very unlikely they would do that.
This season, the Eagles have been wildly successful with Hughlett as the starting long snapper versus Adomitis. When Hughlett is in the lineup, the Eagles are 7-0, while Adomitis was 4-5 as the long snapper for Philly.
Hughlett should be back on the roster soon, as Roseman could be working to get certain players on the active roster or the practice squad. Roseman has learned over the years to exploit loopholes to protect players and ensure they stay in Philly without another team coming in at the last second to get them.

Eagles fans need to be patient and see what happens with Hughlett, but expect him on the roster soon. Otherwise, something else is brewing in the background that shouldn't be happening in Week 18.
