This offseason has really exposed some of the biggest issues with the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line that fans might have been too blind to see before the 2025 campaign.

After injury issues with Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson, and Cam Jurgens, Philly almost saw Johnson and Dickerson retire from football. The Eagles also lost Brett Toth and Matt Pryor in free agency, leaving the depth of the line in massive trouble.

All is not a complete disaster, though, as NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Eagles have re-signed offensive lineman Fred Johnson to a one-year deal. Fred Johnson filled in for Lane Johnson at right tackle in the final eight games of the Eagles' season, allowing 18 pressures, two sacks, and zero quarterback hits in 349 pass blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Philly had to do something to bring in some much-needed veteran experience to the line after losing some key guys. Pryor was not good last year, but Toth was a huge loss for the interior offensive line since he could play guard and center.

Johnson is just as important to the line as he is to their swing tackle, who can play on either side. While last season was not perfect, he held his own in Lane Johnson's absence and helped the Eagles reach the playoffs.

Fred Johnson also helped the Eagles multiple times this season, with his biggest impact game coming against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3. After Lane Johnson got hurt and Pryor played horribly at right tackle for two and a half quarters, Fred Johnson stepped in at right tackle and sparked a 19-point comeback for the Eagles to beat the Rams 33-26.

It's clear the Eagles are going to use the 2026 NFL Draft to add some more depth to the offensive line in the earlier rounds, but Johnson coming back might be one of the most underrated moves this team has made all offseason.
