Not many Philadelphia Eagles fans thought of safety Sydney Brown as a trade option, but that has become a reality for the Birds.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles have traded Brown to the Atlanta Falcons. As part of the deal, they will be swapping fourth- and sixth-round picks with the Eagles getting picks No. 114 and 197 and the Falcons getting picks No. 122 and 215.
Brown was a former third-round pick of the Eagles from back in 2023, starting in nine of the 42 games he appeared in. He racked up 86 tackles, five pass deflections, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, one tackle for loss, and one pick-six.
Eagles move on from Sydney Brown via trade to Falcons
It's a curious move for the Eagles as they already have depth concerns at safety with Reed Blankenship signing with the Houston Texans in free agency, and Marcus Epps is a free agent as well. What makes the move more intriguing is that 2025 second-round pick Andrew Mukuba is coming off a season that ended with him breaking his ankle.
Brown did not have a smooth run with the Eagles as he struggled on defense in coverage. The only good thing about him is that he is very good at special teams coverage.
Last year, Brown had a chance to win the starting safety job in training camp, being the veteran over Mukuba. Unfortunately for Brown, Mukuba was named the starter in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Watch for Michael Carter II to move into the potential starting safety job unless they select a player in the NFL Draft. Carter has been moving towards this moment, and it is possible it will happen.

The Eagles now have some big questions to answer at safety with even fewer players at the position, but there is still time to get those answered in the upcoming weeks.
