We feel old now.

Many of the older Philadelphia Eagles fans will remember kicker David Akers and how great he was for the franchise.

Akers made six Pro Bowls, four second-team All-Pro selections, two first-team All-Pro selections, and two-time scoring leader in the NFL. That resume has made him well known as arguably the best kicker in franchise history, but did fans know that he has a son who is also a special teamer?

David's son, Luke Akers, reportedly got an invite to join the Chicago Bears and Eagles at their rookie mini camps. Luke Akers is mainly a punter, as he averaged 42.9 yards per punt in his college career at UCLA and Northwestern, but he also kicked some field goals with the Wildcats, going 13 of 17 with a long of 43 yards.

Last year at Northwestern, Akers had the best season of his college career, averaging a career-high 45 yards per punt. He also nailed all three of his field goal attempts and both extra points, with his longest field goal being from 35 yards out.

Akers is an intriguing prospect, and the family ties are interesting. If he made the team, he would not be the first son of a former Eagles player to do so. Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.'s dad was a Pro Bowl linebacker for the franchise as well, and Philly has enjoyed Jr. as one of the top special teamers in the NFL.

Putting all personal feelings aside, Akers would have a very difficult time making the active roster for the Eagles. Braden Mann just signed a contract extension in the offseason and is locked in as the starting punter. Jake Elliott, despite his struggles over the last two years, should be a near lock for the roster as well.

If anything, Akers could use a training camp and preseason with the Eagles to show that he can be a great punter in this league. Some game tape would go a long way in his career.
