Eagles just did the exact opposite of what fans want them to do with Jake Elliott

No, don't do that!

Most Philadelphia Eagles fans are completely over Jake Elliott as the team's kicker, despite all the great memories he has given them, but that doesn't mean the team is ready to move on.

There have been calls for Elliott to be released from the team, or at least to bring in competition to push him, after two straight years of struggles. That doesn't appear to be in the cards at the moment, but the Eagles did do something with Elliott that is newsworthy.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported the Eagles have reworked Elliott's contract for 2026. His salary has been dropped from $6 million to $5 million, but it is all guaranteed for 2026. Elliott's new deal helped the Eagles create $240,000 in cap space.

Elliott had a great start to his NFL career, with many highs, including hitting over 93% of his field goals in 2023, being named to the Pro Bowl once in 2021, and earning a second-team All-Pro selection in 2023. After that great 2023 season, though, it all completely fell apart.

The 2024 season saw Elliott only hit 77.4% of his field goals, the second-lowest of his career at the time, despite the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. He actually managed to get worse in 2025 as he made just 74.1% of his field goals, the new second-lowest of his NFL career.

It has not gotten better, but for some reason, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni have gone out of their way to defend Elliott and back him as the starter. It has puzzled every Eagles fan as to why they would despite knowing his struggles.

Sure, a pay cut of sorts might send a small message to him, but releasing him or bringing in competition would be better. It doesn't seem as though the Eagles have interest in doing that.
