Every Philadelphia Eagles fan knows the fight song "Fly Eagles Fly" so well, but what if it becomes a reality?

Well, that apparently was the case for one of the Eagles' newest signings with cornerback Jonathan Jones. While meeting with the media, Jones said he flew a single-engine turboprop from a Charlotte, North Carolina airport to Philadelphia to sign his one-year deal with the team.

“Found a little passion for aviation,” Jones said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. “It’s a little hobby of mine that I enjoy doing.”

Jones literally flew himself to sign with Eagles

It was quite a surprise to everyone, but Jones told reporters that he's always been an outdoors guy, and when he took a discovery flight in 2023, he fell in love with aviation.

“Any time I can fly,” Jones said. “I love it.”

Outside of the cockpit, Jones is a pretty good defensive player in the secondary. He played with the Washington Commanders last year as he racked up 41 tackles, five pass deflections, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit in 12 games. It was injuries that held him out of five games last season.

A big reason Jones is in Philly is that he gives the team some much-needed depth at the position, but he has ties to the Eagles. Jones played under new Eagles secondary coach Mike Pellegrino when the two were in New England together with the Patriots.

Another good thing with Jones is that he is insurance for the Eagles in case things go south with their other new cornerback signing, Riq Woolen. That's not expected to be the case as Woolen will most likely join Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the secondary.

When fan chant "Fly Eagles Fly" next time, those on the outside might have to check if it's at the game or watching Jones flying his plane.
