Even though the offense performed its disappearing act once again in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills, particularly in the second half, the Philadelphia Eagles are riding relatively high heading into the playoffs of the 2025 NFL season.
Nick Sirianni's squad is currently riding a three-game winning streak, and reports are piling in that Philly may even rest their starters for the season finale against the Washington Commanders so as not to risk injury for the postseason.
As it pertains to the rest of the NFC East, things are a disaster. The New York Giants blew their chance at the No. 1 pick last week by beating the Las Vegas Raiders, the Commanders are down in the dumps, and the Dallas Cowboys have played their way out of the playoffs once again.
Oh, and they stunningly waived cornerback Trevon Diggs on Tuesday.
Eagles should victory lap Cowboys by claiming Trevon Diggs
That's right, Dallas released the two-time Pro Bowler and former First-Team All-Pro cornerback with just two games left in the year. Instead of reaching a resolution or simply trying to trade him this offseason, the Cowboys will get nothing in return for their starting cornerback.
The timing of his waiver also allows a team that may have something to play for to place a claim on him or sign him if he clears waivers and becomes a free agent. A team like the Philadelphia Eagles, perhaps, that has needed a surefire third cornerback all season long.
While the Eagles are low in the waiver claim order, general manager Howie Roseman should absolutely put in a claim for Diggs. If he doesn't, Roseman should be the first person on the phone with his agent if Diggs hits the open market.
According to ESPN's Field Yates, it would cost, at most, just north of $500,000 for Philly to sign him for the rest of the season. Not only would this sneaky addition potentially pay dividends for the Eagles in the playoffs, but Roseman could stick it to Jerry Jones, which always feels good.
Adoree' Jackson has certainly been better lately, but behind him, Philly doesn't have much. Roseman was aggressive in acquiring Michael Carter II and Jakorian Bennett, but neither has panned out. It stands to reason that Roseman could be aggressive again in getting a more surefire player like Diggs.

After years of hating Diggs simply because he donned the navy and silver, the former Cowboy could give Eagles fans something to cheer about. At the worst, it's a cheap and failed venture. At best, Jones looks like a fool for letting him go, and Roseman and the Eagles make out like bandits.
