Eagles' Jaire Alexander trade update turns out to be not as much of a disaster

I guess that helps?

All Philadelphia Eagles fans can relate to Las Vegas Raiders fans on getting the raw end of a Baltimore Ravens trade after the mess with Maxx Crosby coming back to Vegas.

It reminded Eagles fans of that horrendous trade deadline deal they made with the Ravens to acquire Jaire Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Philly had to send over a 2026 sixth-round pick to Baltimore.

Ultimately, a week later, Alexander would inform the Eagles that he would step away from football and think about retirement. While he never played in a game, Philly didn't get completely screwed on the deal after the latest update.

The Eagles got some benefits from the Jaire Alexander

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter shared an update on the trade months after it was made. It turns out the Eagles are going to get some cash to put towards the salary cap, something they much needed.

"It turns out there was a Philadelphia payoff in the Ravens-Eagles’ Jaire Alexander trade from last November. The Eagles received an $889,000 salary-cap credit and the corresponding cash itself, which Alexander paid back to the Eagles even though he never played a game for the franchise, league sources told ESPN."

Alexander had a nice, long career in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers and Ravens, but Eagles fans never got the chance to see how he would look in the secondary. At the time of his trade, he was seen as a replacement for Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo, who struggled throughout the 2025 season.

That trade ended up being the wake-up call that Jackson needed as he put in some nice performances in the last month of the season. That doesn't change the fact that the Eagles lost a draft pick in the process, but Philly has been strapped for cash, so that should help.

This trade will be forgotten in history, but for the time being, the Eagles got some help from Alexander and the league. Baltimore, on the other hand, made the list after this move.
