All offseason, Philadelphia Eagles fans had to hear from the media that quarterback Jalen Hurts is overrated and awful, but things seem to be taking a different turn.
An ESPN report sparked a flurry of opinions about Hurts, citing sources who say he is uncoachable, changes plays, and isn’t a good teammate. Everyone decided to hop on the bandwagon and criticized the quarterback, to the frustration of every Eagles fan who has seen how good he is.
After months of bad Hurts reports, this week felt a bit different with several signs that people still think highly of the Eagles’ franchise quarterback. ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky appeared on Sports Radio 94 WIP, where he shared his thoughts on Hurts and whether he’s a top-10 quarterback.
"I don't think he would be in a lot of people's top 16, but all he's done is win," Orlovsky said. "All he's done is play huge in big moments. And so like, my take on him is, I got asked this yesterday, I think it's silly to not have him as a top 10 player at the position because of the accomplishments."

Jalen Hurts may not be thought of as badly as Eagles fans think
Orlovsky thinks he’s a top 10 quarterback, but what about others? CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco doesn’t share that opinion, as he ranked Hurts 17th among quarterbacks in his top 100 players but still had him at 84th overall.
"After leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory the year before, Hurts saw his play decline some last season. But he did throw a career-best 25 touchdown passes. He wasn't as effective running the ball as he had been in previous seasons."
There may be a separate debate about Hurts and his ranking among quarterbacks, but it is at least a good sign that he is considered a top-100 player in the NFL. Many in the NFL community probably wouldn’t even do that for him.
Last season was considered a down year for Hurts, but he still had a 25 touchdown-to-six-interception ratio that is impressive, especially since most of those picks came in one game against the Los Angeles Chargers. People can say whatever they want about Hurts, but the Eagles won’t lose a game because he is turning the ball over.
Still, it feels like Hurts has a lot to prove in 2026 as he is working with his seventh different play-caller in seven years with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. The new-look offense is going to push Hurts in a good way that can finally dispel the talks about him as a passer, including that he can’t throw it in the middle of the field.

Hurts has all the skill sets to be one of the top quarterbacks in the league, and because of the mess of an offense he had to run last year, he is taking all the blame. That is all going to change in 2026 as he finally proves to the league again that he is that guy.
