One thing Philadelphia Eagles fans have quickly figured out with quarterback Jalen Hurts is that he is one to have bangers of quotes, but won't be afraid to subtly say how he feels about a subject.
The Eagles' fan base has been frustrated all season with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and the way he has approached his predictable, conservative play-calling. It has led to a massive decrease in the running game and an offense that has spiraled to the bottom 10 in the league.
Everyone has noticed that Hurts has run the ball less this season than he ever has, as part of that could be because he reportedly asked the team before the season to do fewer QB-designed runs, but also has a lot to do with Patullo's inability to call those types of plays in the right spot. Hurts was asked by reporters about running the ball less and whether that has kept him healthy, and the franchise quarterback gave an interesting answer.
"No, the season has just gone the way it is," Hurts said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "The approach this year, and the way the games have been called with this coordinator — with coach KP —it's just kind of gone that way. I've taken it in stride and giving my best with the position they've put me in."
It certainly doesn't sound like Jalen Hurts is a fan of Kevin Patullo's play calling
Eagles fans didn't need that subtle quote from Hurts to know he's been frustrated at times with Patullo's play-calling this season. The biggest evidence of that was in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams, when the Eagles were down by 19 points. Hurts got into a heated discussion with the coaches and Patullo in the middle of it, and once that happened, it sparked the comeback win.
To give Patullo some credit, there are certain aspects of Hurts' game that have gotten better with the offensive coordinator. Hurts threw more yards this year than in 2024 and even hit a career-high in touchdown passes.
While Hurts was great with his accuracy at the beginning of the season, after the bye week, Hurts got worse with his decision-making, and his completion percentage tanked under 70% for the season to 64.8%, the worst for him since 2021.

Things have not gone smoothly for Patullo as the offensive coordinator, and it might be too late to get them 100% correct, but the signs are there that the team, while they may like Patullo on a personal level, has grown tired of him as a play caller.
