The Philadelphia Eagles are continually looking to add talent to the roster, and they might have found someone who could help.
Last week, during the two days of mandatory OTAs, the Eagles invited free agent wide receiver James Proche II to try out with the team, where he worked out at wide receiver and punt returner. Bleeding Green Nation Eagles reporter Brandon Lee Gowton came away impressed with Proche's performance.
"Proche looks like he’d be worth signing to the 90-man roster to have him in training camp, especially if (Britain) Covey is still injured. In addition to looking comfortable as a returner, I noticed him make a real nice one-handed grab that I didn’t think he would be able to pull off in position drills. That being said, I don’t feel good about his roster chances."
James Proche II might actually be able to help the Eagles right now
The reality is that Proche making the 53-man roster is not entirely realistic, as Gowton pointed out. At receiver alone, the Eagles have depth that includes DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, Johnny Wilson, and Darius Cooper. Yeah, a lot of guys with very few spots open.
Covey has a strong chance to at least make the practice squad and also make the team due to the issues the Eagles had last year in the return game. Guys like Will Shipley and A.J. Dillon struggled in the return game. Cooper DeJean worked out at returner as well at OTAs, but the Eagles don't want him taking any more hits than he will take in the slot on defense.
With Covey injured, it might make sense to bring in Proche so that at least the Eagles' special teams are in a good spot. It will help to have another solid receiver to have in the room.

If anything, Proche is presenting the Eagles with a great solution and problem at the same time, as the wide receiver position might be getting better. Even if he has no shot to make the 53-man roster, the Eagles will at least have depth at an important position.
