All 32 NFL teams are getting closer looks at the top prospects coming into the 2026 NFL Draft, but the Philadelphia Eagles had their eye on a player that no one is talking about, who should now join the team.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo was watching some players practice at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, including former Florida Gators kicker Trey Smack. Garafolo shared two clips of Smack hitting field goals from 60 yards out in the stadium.

What was interesting was who was monitoring Smack's kicks. There were three special teams coaches helping out, including Eagles assistant special teams coach Tyler Brown.

Could the Eagles finally be looking at kickers to compete with Jake Elliott?

Every Eagles fan has grown frustrated with Elliott over the last two years, as he has gone two consecutive seasons making less than 80% of his field goals, yet continues to receive public support from general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni. Last year, he made 74.1% of his field goals, which is the lowest of his career when making 20 or more attempts in a season.

Smack is an interesting prospect, as he had a good season with the Gators last year, making 81.8% of his field goals. He was a third-team All-SEC selection in 2025. His 2024 season was his best, with 85.7% field goals made, and he was named to the All-SEC Coaches Team.

Elliott needs some kind of competition to push him, because he has not been the kicker the Eagles fans have known him to be before the 2024 season. What saved Elliott from a rough career conclusion was his great playoff performance in 2024, which helped the team win the Super Bowl.

Philly could bring in Smack to compete with Elliott and give them someone more consistent on long field goals. Last season, Smack made five of his six field goals from 50 or more yards, while Elliott was four of eight from the same distance.

Eagles fans hope that Coach Brown got into the ear of Roseman about how good Smack could be for them.
