There won't be many complaints about the undrafted rookie class the Philadelphia Eagles have in 2026.
There is a possibility that more than one undrafted rookie could make the roster. The Eagles know well about undrafted free agents making the 53-man roster over the last few years, including Reed Blankenship and Darius Cooper, but Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport joined everyone in their excitement for Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson as the Eagles' most exciting undrafted rookie.
"Despite being a two-time captain and second-team All-SEC performer at Alabama, a fairly lengthy injury history caused linebacker Deontae Lawson to go undrafted this year. However, the 6'3", 226-pounder told reporters that the adversity he has already faced can only help at the next level: 'Just going through my injury, it made me realize, 'You only have one shot at this.' You've just got to take every day one day at a time. No matter what's going on or how you feel, you've just got to be your best for the person beside you. That's what I'm trying to do and that's my main goal for this year.' The Eagles are set where the starters at inside linebacker are concerned with veteran Zack Baun and youngster Jihaad Campbell. But the team's depth at the position could use a boost, and a healthy Lawson has the experience and athleticism to at the very least carve out a reserve and special teams role in Philly."
Deontae Lawson might make the Eagles' 53-man roster
Last season with the Crimson Tide, Lawson racked up 80 tackles, four pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and 1.5 sacks. He was named as a selection for the second-team All-SEC team in 2025.
Despite Zack Baun and Lawson's old college teammate, Jihaad Campbell, in the starting lineup, the depth at inside linebacker is not as strong as some might think. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is solid and should be in the rotation, but Lawson will most likely have to compete with Smael Mondon Jr. for a spot on the team.

No one in Philly should sleep on the idea of Lawson making the roster, as he has all the talent to get the job done. It might take him being great on special teams to make it happen, but he's good enough to help on both that unit and defense.
