This offseason has been filled with so much negativity around Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Reports have come out about Hurts not being coachable and changing plays in the huddle. Many who have watched his tape have criticized him for not being able to read defenses, not being able to throw the deep ball, and being more of a "running back" than quarterback.
Well, at least one of those narratives can be completely shut down for good. Pro Football Focus shared some stats on Hurts since 2022, showing he is pretty good at throwing the deep ball.
- 3,476 passing yards (4th)
- 39 touchdowns (1st)
- 77 big time throws (5th)
Jalen Hurts can throw the ball down the field when he needs to
Of course, everyone started talking about how that was all due to A.J. Brown being able to catch those deep passes. It wasn't just Brown last year who was helping Hurts with that. DeVonta Smith was able to do it multiple times throughout the season and even Jahan Dotson caught a few deep passes himself.
Everyone keeps trying to find some kind of excuse to criticize Hurts for his play on the field. The numbers are starting to show that the excuses are starting to dry up.
Here's a man that has won over 68% of his starts, been to three Pro Bowls, appeared in two Super Bowls, winning one of them, and taking home the Super Bowl MVP. That is the resume of an accomplished player.
Sure, there are limitations with Hurts. There hasn't been a secret to that. He's not always willing to be aggressive with the football and tends to be cautious when he runs.
The arm talent is 100% there for Hurts, though, as he can make any throw he wants and isn't crutched by his receivers. His athleticism is superb when he takes off, and he can make guys miss with his quick feet.
Going into the 2026 season, Hurts will get some help to unlock his potential with Sean Mannion taking over as the Eagles' offensive coordinator. Mannion will challenge Hurts in ways he has not been before, as there will be more passes in the middle of the field, have more motions pre-snap, and call more RPOs for Hurts to run the ball.

This new offense is going to be great for Hurts as it should further shut down the exhausting narratives about him as a quarterback.
