Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was on the record a long time ago, stating that he wanted the team to be a "QB Factory." That doesn't mean every quarterback who is a trade or cut candidate needs to be suggested to them.
It seems to be a common occurrence that the Eagles are force-fed a lot of young quarterbacks who could go elsewhere. That's because there is a level of uncertainty around Jalen Hurts, because he didn't get a contract extension, and many believe he's in a prove-it season for Philly.
Well, one new quarterback suggestion for the Eagles that probably won't have the fans' support. It honestly wouldn't make too much sense for them in the first place.
Eagles named as a possible candidate to land Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy
NFL insider Jason La Canfora wrote an article about Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy most likely not staying with the Vikings after Kyler Murray was named the starter for 2026. La Canfora discussed which teams could be in the running for McCarthy, and, of course, the Eagles had to be brought up.
"Another personnel executive suggested the Eagles as a potential bargain-bin buyer, with Eagles GM Howie Roseman doing extensive background work on developmental quarterbacks ahead of the supplemental draft."
This isn't the first time this year La Canfora has tried to push a young QB on the Eagles. He mentioned Brendan Sorsby as a possibility for the Eagles as well before he decided to sit out the 2026 college football and NFL seasons.
McCarthy was a first-round pick by the Vikings in 2024, but has not lived up to expectations. He's been injured in both seasons and has only 10 starts in his career. Despite being 6-4 as a starter, he has completed less than 57% of his passes and thrown for 11 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.
The Eagles really don't need another quarterback, and Roseman wouldn't want to take a flyer on McCarthy. Philly has Andy Dalton, Tanner McKee, and rookie Cole Payton behind Hurts right now, with Dalton and McKee battling for the QB2 job. Sure, it hasn't been perfect for the quarterbacks, but try throwing McCarthy in Sean Mannion's offensive scheme, and he might sink quickly.
There needs to be sympathy for McCarthy because he got screwed in the Vikings situation. He had only 10 games to prove himself and was set up for failure from the beginning. McCarthy could benefit from being with the Eagles, but that might cause an unnecessary distraction the franchise doesn't need right now.

Philly is doing just fine at quarterback right now, so they should punt on the McCarthy idea for now. But really, though, not every QB has to be suggested for the Eagles. Let's move past that and focus on other positions that could actually help them now.
