Eagles reporter's warning would be bad news for unproven rookie

He might have competition coming in.

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman loves adding top quarterback talent to the room, regardless of who is there.

Roseman has been doing it for years, which has paid off by adding great depth behind franchise quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts, but there might be a plot twist in 2026. Philly Voice Eagles reporter Jimmy Kempski shared some interesting commentary: among potential rookies who could be selected in the supplemental draft, one quarterback could be in line to be selected by the team.

"One of those above players, Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby, has checked into a treatment program for a gambling addition, and his 2026 college football season is in doubt. There’s a chance that he could apply for the NFL’s Supplemental Draft. There is also a chance that if he is approved for the Supplemental Draft and gets selected that he could be suspended by the NFL thereafter. Informative primer here. Anyway, he’s a talented player. He’s big (listed at 6’3, 235), he has a good arm, and he can run a little bit. His 2025 highlights (when he went to Cincinnati). The Eagles don’t have room on their roster for another quarterback. They already have four. BUT… if they were confident that Sorsby will be suspended by the NFL, especially if it’s for the entire 2026 season, it would absolutely make sense for Howie Roseman to at least put in a Day 3 bid for this guy, since Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton are scheduled to be free agents next offseason. They did take a shot on another gambling case when they signed Isaiah Rodgers, and that worked out."

Brendan Sorsby could be trouble for one Eagle on the team if brought in

It's been a debate among many NFL teams over the last month since Sorsby got in trouble for gambling. His college career appears to be over, so he might try to escape trouble and enter the NFL, but the league has made it clear that he will most likely still face some kind of punishment for it.

This is one risk that Roseman may want to sit out. Despite Sorsby being a very talented quarterback who could have been a first-round pick, he might be too much trouble for them to want to handle, even if they have dealt with a similar situation before.

Jalen Hurts is already there, so they are in no rush for a starter, and with McKee and Dalton there, they have the backups that they are fine. One other quarterback, though, would hate to have Sorsby there.

Some have looked at Eagles fifth-round pick Cole Payton as the future of the franchise, who needs two years to develop. Payton has some really interesting skill sets that could separate him from other quarterbacks in the future, but Sorsby would throw a massive wrench in his NFL career.

Eagles fans might not love them bringing in Sorsby, but no one would be more of a critic of the move than Payton, as he tries to stay in line to potentially succeed Hurts.
