The Philadelphia Eagles fan base thought they had at least one victory in the bag heading into the 2026 season after seeing the schedule in the release, but the latest news just crushed that dream.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed multi-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal to return to the franchise for at least one more season. It is expected to be worth up to $25 million.

Rodgers played for the Steelers last season, took them to the playoffs, and won the AFC North. He officially will be reunited with his former Green Bay Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy.

Eagles now must face Aaron Rodgers in 2026

Why this news is so big for the Eagles is that they will be facing the Steelers in Week 11 of the 2026 NFL season. Philly will be coming off a bye that week and will be the home team playing in Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles should still be the favorites to win this game, as the Steelers will be without head coach Mike Tomlin for the first time in two decades, making 2026 a season of transition. When comparing the rosters, the Eagles still have the better one over Pittsburgh.

Rodgers being over there, though, certainly complicates that matchup, as the Steelers looked better offensively when he played. The Eagles are not going to be able to walk into the Linc and dominate Pittsburgh as they were hoping.

Philly has won three of the last four games against the Steelers, with the Eagles winning the last matchup 27-13 in 2024. The end result should be the same, but expect more of a fight from Rodgers and his Steelers as he tries to win that Lombardi Trophy one more time.
