First impressions can go a long way, and when a rookie steps on the field or into the meeting room for the first time, it's important to get off to a good start. One Philadelphia Eagles rookie appears to already be on the right side of the team.
Eagles' seventh-round pick Uar Bernard is a story everyone in Philly is tracking after posting some incredible workout numbers after coming to America from Nigeria as part of the NFL's International Pathway Program. Defensive tackle Jordan Davis spoke with the media, where he shared his thoughts on Bernard early on in the process.
“He’s a good guy, a great guy," Davis said via Eagles reporter Anthony DiBona. "He’s really meshing in the room well.”
Uar Bernard is fitting in just fine early on with the Eagles
Davis is a great mentor for Bernard to look up to and listen to, as Davis is the model for what an Eagle should be. It wasn't the smoothest for him early in his NFL career, but last year proved that with hard work come rewards, as he lost 26 pounds in the offseason and had a career season that all ended with the largest contract extension for a nose tackle in league history.
Bernard's potential is insane: he weighs 306 pounds with just 6% body fat and runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. That is stuff no NFL players have right now, so he is truly a unicorn as an athlete.
Year 1 is going to be very difficult for Bernard since he has never played organized football before, so he will have to learn from guys like Jalen Carter, Davis, and Moro Ojomo. If he can learn quickly, though, there's no doubt he could become one of the elite players in the NFL.

The Eagles have had success with international pathway players, as Jordan Mailata is living proof. Bernard could be the next great player, and it appears as though he's off to a good start.
